Zimbabwe Reconsiders Stance on Starlink

Zimbabwe Reconsiders Stance on Starlink – After previously prohibiting Starlink from selling its satellite internet service due to “security reasons,” Zimbabwe is reportedly in discussions with the company’s officials to reconsider its position.

Despite not having a license to sell its products in the country, several companies and individuals are already using Starlink’s service.

According to sources close to the matter, government representatives are meeting with Starlink, likely due to the authorities realizing that they are fighting a losing battle against its influx of gadgets.

The government’s U-turn on Starlink comes after several individuals and companies were fined for unauthorized use of the service.

Starlink offers faster speeds, satellite technology, and lower latency, making it an excellent choice for people living in rural areas with limited connectivity. The service is cheaper, uncapped, and faster than other internet services provided by the local providers.

In other news, as slanderly tweeted by Edmund Kudzayi, the self-proclaimed “Senior Deacon of Zimbabwe,” Fresh-Onion Mutasa, has sparked controversy in a broadcast criticizing POTRAZ’s Director General, Gift Machengeta. Machengeta claimed that Zimbabwe has the cheapest data rates in the region, justifying the Starlink Ban.

Fresh-Onion disagreed, citing Telkom’s 50GB offer for $12.50 in South Africa and Zimbabwe’s 8GB for $13. He accused Machengeta of deceiving the public, inciting outrage among his followers who demanded Machengeta’s ousting.

Fresh-Onion also invoked President’s totem, urging him to stop the alleged deception. However, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ) distanced itself from the controversial figure, questioning his spiritual credibility and denouncing prayers inciting animosity. Despite this, Fresh-Onion’s remarks have sparked widespread debate among the nation. Regardless, the self-proclaimed Senior Deacon has once again demonstrated his willingness to cross outrageous lines, leaving a trail of reactions and conversations in his wake.
