A Trend Among SA Socialites? – Another Actress Thando Thabethe Takes Ex Boyfriend To Court Over Abuse Allegations

Well-known radio presenter and model, Thando Thabethe, has recently opened up about the tumultuous end to her relationship with former boyfriend, Lunga Shabalala.

Thabethe, who hosts a popular drive-time show on 947 radio station, has alleged instances of unusual behaviour and harassment by Shabalala since their split in October of last year.

As reported by City Press, in a bid to ensure her safety and well-being, Thabethe obtained an interim protection order against Shabalala at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 June 2023.

The order sheds light on a series of concerning incidents, including an alleged break-in at Thabethe’s residence in March 2023, which she attributes to Shabalala.

Thabethe detailed her experiences in the court document, highlighting Shabalala’s persistent presence and unwelcome intrusions into her life.

She shared instances of him following her, unexpectedly appearing on a production set, and even making threats to disrupt proceedings. The document also mentions an incident on 3 March 2023, where Shabalala gained access to her residential complex under false pretences in an attempt to retrieve his belongings.

‘He is harassing me over anything’

When he realised Thabethe was absent, he repeatedly contacted her best friend to inquire about her whereabouts.

Further instances cited in the document include Shabalala showing up at Thabethe’s workplace on 5 May 2023 and following her to a nearby restaurant on 12 May 2023. Thabethe, who was recently linked to a romantic relationship with fellow radiocaster Robert Marawa, expressed her concerns, stating,

“He is currently harassing me over anything.”

Thabethe claimed that Shabalala continually monitors her movements and resorts to disparaging her on social media platforms.

She expressed her discomfort with his behaviour, mentioning how he creates situations to initiate contact and even communicates incidents where he observes her lights turning off.

Thabethe also highlighted an incident where Shabalala became upset when she travelled to Durban, insisting on knowing who accompanied her.

In addition to her personal safety concerns, Thabethe expressed worries about a potential dispute with Shabalala regarding an upcoming television show.

The document indicates that he threatened to impede the airing of one of her TV programs, prompting her urgency in obtaining the protection order.

Thabethe received correspondence from Shabalala’s attorneys and fears his reaction once the show goes on air. She emphasised her desire to prevent the situation from escalating further, given Shabalala’s alleged stalking and harassment.

Thabethe also requested the court to prevent Shabalala from disclosing any private electronic communications shared during their relationship.
