Plumtree Man Faces Robbery and Fraud Charges After Buying Beer with Fake US$20 Notes; Denied Bail – A 29-year-old man from Plumtree, Passmore Mbano, has been brought before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware in Matabeleland South province’s Matobo area on charges of robbery and fraud after indulging in a spree of buying beer with counterfeit US$20 notes.
Mbano, who was denied bail, will reappear in court on April 4.

According to court documents, on February 6, Mbano allegedly forcibly entered Eunice Dube’s (28) house in Matobo, armed with a machete and an electric shocker, demanding money. He reportedly used the shocker to coerce Dube into surrendering US$3,000 and cellphones.
In another incident, Mbano and three unidentified accomplices visited Matobo Rock Motel, where they purchased various beers using a fake US$20 note. This scheme was repeated at multiple bottle stores where Mbano exchanged counterfeit money for beer.

The authorities were alerted, leading to Mbano’s arrest at a tuckshop in Arizona mine, where he had bought groceries using more fake US$20 notes. Selestine Madziwa represented the State in the proceedings.
