The following day, Paris Saint-Germain beat Real Sociedad 2-0, while Lazio’s 1-0 home win over Bayern Munich represented the week’s shock result.

Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin starred for Real Madrid with nine saves in denying Leipzig. Defender Achraf Hakimi was once again one of Europe’s most reliable supply lines for Paris Saint-Germain, while Aurelien Tchouameni stepped back from his usual role as a defensive midfielder to deputise for a depleted Real Madrid defence.

Fellow defender Alessio Romagnoli was outstanding in Lazio’s win over Bayern, while Lazio full-backs Adam Marusic and Elseid Hysaj excelled in dealing with the wing attacks of Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane. Injuries to key players allowed Brahim Díaz to prove himself an admirable stand-in for the injured Jude Bellingham, while Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden took on the responsibility for City’s attack in the absence of De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Finally, Kylian Mbappé was once again Paris Saint-Germain’s leading light, playing an important role in their win over Real Sociedad. Additionally, Gustav Isaksen played an integral role in helping Lazio claim victory over Bayern Munich, winning the penalty for Ciro Immobile to score the decisive goal, despite not yet being a full Danish international.
