NSS to meet international standard before 2026 world cup qualifiers. Kirsty Coventry, the Sports Minister of Zimbabwe, has announced that the National Sports Stadium will be prepared for the hosting of Warriors’ matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture has forged agreements with private entities to fund the stadium’s redevelopment, allowing it to fulfil international standards mandated by the Confederation of African Football.

Various stadia have been condemned by CAF for failing to meet these requirements, forcing the national team to play their home match in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Rwanda in November 2023.

Coventry told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture that the MoUs signed with private companies hindered her ability to name the entities funding the redevelopment, but she expected the new stadium to be up and running on time, with renovations being a top priority in the country as a whole.
