World Cup qualification campaign: Rwanda 0 – Zimbabwe 0

Zimbabwe began their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with a nil-all draw against hosts Rwanda at Huye Stadium in Butare.

It was the Warriors’ first official international match since a 17-month FIFA suspension was lifted in July.

The result means that Zimbabwe will share Group C top spot with Rwanda for at least 24 hours with other group members Nigeria and Lesotho set to clash at the former’s home tomorrow evening.

After a cagey first half, the Warriors, captained by Luton Town star Marvelous Nakamba, dominated the second half and were unlucky to score a goal or two.

Baltemar Brito’s men had a goal and a penalty shout waved away.

Italy-based defender Jordan Zemura, Andy Rinomhota who plays for Cardiff City in England and Reading’s Tivonge Rushesha played no part in the match.

The Warriors host Nigeria at the same venue on Sunday. Newsday
