Zimbabwean lady tweets about staying away from diaspora-based men – the internet explodes

A social media war has erupted following a viral tweet that advised women to steer clear of men residing outside the country.

The tweet has sparked controversy and drawn various reactions from netizens.

Why men abroad?

Research shows that many unemployed Zimbabwean women face prejudice and are striving to achieve financial stability through unconventional means, including clito-currency and other non-formal job opportunities.

Due to the economic hardships in the country, many Zimbabweans are seeking ways to leave the country for greener pastures, including securing spousal visas from individuals abroad.

Unfortunately, some individuals take advantage of this desperation, as reported by some women on social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter).

These women have revealed that some men are using this opportunity to engage in short-term relationships or “hit and run” scenarios, leaving these women stranded.

Numerous individuals have come forward to share their experiences of being left destitute after being promised employment in countries such as the UK, but only under the condition that they date first and process the necessary paperwork later.

Sadly, many of these individuals have not seen the light at the end of the tunnel.

As a result, social media users have been sharing their thoughts and sparking mixed reactions.

One user, in particular, advised women to avoid men residing in the diaspora (referred to as +44s) and not to pin their hopes on them.

Reactions from users

These comments have stirred up emotions and debates among netizens.

In a message posted on Twitter, she stated, “Most of +44 gents are the worst failures in life but they have these failures covered up by “im based in UK” most guys in Zimbabwe are doing waay better than UK gent’s appearance wise as well. Ladies be careful if approached by +44, marombe…”

Another user took a firm stance by saying,” I’m forever warning my girlies about Zimbabwean (UK based) men , its a downhill. Those men act superior and mighty yet in reality its just the snow ,big jackets and the accent  hapana hapana , run as fast as you can girls…”

Since their posting, these tweets have garnered a lot of attention and opinions. See how others are weighing in below.

“kkkkk someone was disappointed when the spousal VISA ddn’t materialise and the Western Union ddn’t show up 😂😂😂😂😂” reacted user @CeasarCicero.

“You can never successfully advise anyone to stay away from any man because it’s in the nature of women to think they’re different/special and the exception to the rule that’s why despite statistics saying otherwise, they’re all convinced they should land a rich man,” responded user @ElPratron350.

Zim is a textbook example of sex tourism. It’s just poverty and it’s rather unfortunate. Some guys are on the subscription models where they send money to these women every month.” replied user @OliverSaunyama

“Takanyanya kutadzei kusvika pakunzwai????

I thought it’s an individual thing rather than a UK MEN thing. My two friends have successfully brought women they met on Social media platforms wani? One from Zim to Manchester and another one from Zambia to Leeds.

It is possible hazvo.” says user @ndisigauke16

Zimbabwe is among the countries where a significant number of citizens engage in sham marriages to facilitate the process of obtaining spousal visas for entry into European countries, such as the UK .
