‘He Planned It, Fear Men’ – Mixed Reactions Follow After Money Changer Misses Wedding While In Remand

‘He Planned It, Fear Men’ – Mixed Reactions Follow After Money Changer Misses Wedding While In Remand – In a twist of fate, Lardmio Ruvisi, one of the 65 illegal foreign currency dealers recently apprehended by the police, had to cancel his wedding scheduled for Saturday. This unfortunate incident unfolded as he was remanded in custody pending a bail application today.

Residing in Warren Park 1, Ruvisi was arrested during a crackdown on illegal foreign exchange dealers in Harare, part of the government’s efforts to protect the newly introduced currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG). His arrest on Independence Day occurred while he sought USD for his wedding preparations, caught in a currency exchange at a prominent intersection in Harare.

Under surveillance, law enforcement confronted Ruvisi during an exchange transaction and requested a Buddie airtime transfer worth ZiG130 (equivalent to US$10). Failing to complete the transfer led to his arrest alongside 64 others.

The news of Ruvisi missing his wedding stirred varied reactions on social media. Some argued for leniency, suggesting bail to permit attendance at his own wedding, while others questioned the severity of his arrest for a currency exchange within legal parameters.

Here are some social media reactions:

@Chengwe Chikomo:

Unfair treatment. Release him.

@Elder Ndemo:

Reflects daily struggles faced by ordinary people. So sad.

@mcbaudy:

Our guy must have had an elaborate wedding escape plan 😊

@Leeman_UTD:

Is exchanging USD for ZiG airtime a crime when both are legal?

@Muguriri:

Maybe it was all part of his wedding escape plan 😊
