Woman Kills Family for Insurance, Faces Life Behind Bars

A South African woman, Keletsang Martha Motladile, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for orchestrating the murders of her cousin, sister, and nephew, all driven by a twisted desire for insurance payouts.

The chilling plot began in January 2019 when Motladile hired a hitman, Molefi Molise, to kill her cousin, Ernest Mokhele. After receiving a lump sum from the insurance payout, she continued her reign of terror two months later, this time targeting her sister, Lesang, and her nephew, Bongani, using automatic rifles in their home.

However, her crimes wouldn’t go unnoticed. Police launched an investigation after the last two murders, leading to the arrest of Molise and the discovery of the murder weapon.

Ballistics tests confirmed the weapon was used in all three killings, linking them to Motladile, who had taken out life insurance policies worth R347,000 on her relatives.

Prosecutors painted a picture of pure greed as the motive behind the senseless killings. They argued against any leniency, highlighting the premeditated and callous nature of the crimes.

Molise, who showed no remorse and continued his “killing spree,” received additional charges for attempted robbery, attempted murder, and illegal weapon possession, resulting in multiple hefty sentences.

Motladile was convicted of murdering her three relatives and sentenced to 30 years for each count, totaling 60 years to be served consecutively.
