Suspected cable thief served noodles before further beating – see photos  – In Nigeria, social media users are sharing photos of a suspected cable thief who was reportedly served a plate of noodles while being punished for vandalism.

The suspect, identified as Preye Ayase, and his accomplice, Ringo Tareladei, were caught vandalizing electrical cables that connect two communities.

According to reports, a mob had caught the thieves and were meting out punishment to them when a man arrived with a plate of noodles for Ayase, who was still handcuffed.

The man fed Ayase the noodles as he sat on the ground with his head bowed in shame.

Social media users have been reacting to the incident with mixed opinions.

While some argue that the act of feeding the thief noodles during his punishment is inhumane and violates his human rights, others believe it is a unique form of punishment which could deter would-be thieves from carrying out criminal acts. Furthermore, the food was reportedly bought by a member of the public, not by the vigilantes or security officials who were meting out the punishment.

Cable theft is a significant problem in Nigeria, with criminals vandalizing and stealing electrical wiring from power lines, transformers, and substations. These thefts often result in blackouts and delays in power restoration for residents. The Nigerian government has been cracking down on cable theft, and the act is punishable by imprisonment or fines.

The sharing of the photos on social media has sparked a conversation about vigilantism and mob justice.
