Shughetta Gives His Side Of The Story

Musician and radio personality Shugeta has responded to an incident in which he appears to have been slapped off the stage by Congolese musician Koffi Olomide.

The Congolese maestro performed at the Africa Explosion in Kadoma over the weekend. The stellar lineup included South African duo Mafikizolo and local acts like Jah Prayzah, Sulumani Chimbetu, and Tamy Moyo.

The show progressed well until the moment Kofi came. The Congolese legend walked onstage as Shugeta, the MC, hyped the crowd.

Koffi then tapped Shugeta on the back, to which he turned, and the Congolese then slightly slapped his cheeks to make him leave the stage.

Shugeta then humbly turned away and walked off stage, making way for the Congolese hitmaker to rock the crowd in Kadoma.

Zimbabweans found offence in the incident and felt Koffi Olomide went too far in a country not his own. The incident has sparked a debate on social media about the treatment of local artists by foreign stars

Shugeta came out and posted a lengthy comment on one Facebook page, explaining what transpired and pouring cold water on speculations that Koffi Olomide disrespectfully slapped and hounded him off stage.

He clarified:

“So ndirikuona a lot of comments here about me. Anyway, ndangoti ndingojekesawo something. I was emceeing at the event and ndaishanda closely ne these big artists ese aivepo vachindiudza zvavaida pakupinda pa stage, during the performance and even mabudiro.

“And Koffi akandiudza backstage achisvika kuti kana ndaakuuya ndikuzoda hype then kana ndasvika I will give you a signal. So paakauya ndichipa hype to me that was the signal.

“Left the stage to the King man sezvatanga tawirirana. Remember I was working that’s how I put food on my table so ndaizopikisa ndakamira papi?”
