POWER SUPPLY IMPROVES

THE Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has announced an improvement in the electricity supply situation.

Industry and households are now receiving more power supplies than in previous months.

The improvement is set to continue as measures are implemented to stabilise Unit 7 at Hwange Power Station.

Total power generation was reported at 936MW, with Hwange contributing 250MW, Kariba South 660MW and Harare 26MW.

Output at Kariba South had been severely limited after the flood waters from last year were exhausted, resulting in generation being cut to 300MW.

Synchronisation of Hwange Unit 7 has helped to improve the situation.

ZESA general manager for stakeholder relations, communications and welfare, George Manyaya, said power supply had improved, resulting “in reduced load curtailment across most of our customer segments”.

“Barring unforeseen technical challenges, we expect the electricity supply situation to continuously improve as we ramp up generation at the Hwange Power Station.

“Likewise, a lot of technical processes are ongoing in preparation for the impending synchronisation of Hwange Unit 8, which will add another 300MW,” Manyaya said.
