Legendary Musician, Thomas Mapfumo dismisses fake X account claiming acceptance of Chivayo offer – Thomas Mapfumo, renowned for his Chimurenga music, has dismissed as fake and malicious a fake X account that has been created and running under his name.
The Twitter account accused the musician of accepting the extravagant offer from controversial personality Wicknell Chivayo.
The offer supposedly included a luxury car worth $200,000 and a residence valued at $300,000.
Recently, Wicknell Chivayo, an aspiring businessman and entrepreneur, made an offer to purchase these assets for Mukanya, but with a single condition attached — an apology for remarks made regarding Chivayo’s vehicle giveaway.
By directing individuals to “Go and See Victor” at Exquisite Cars Dealership within the city, Chivayo has presented top-of-the-line vehicles as donations to several individuals, including musicians, churchgoers and other members of the public.
Nevertheless, the comments made have resulted in Thomas Mapfumo becoming a topic of discussion throughout the city and various regions of the country.
Individuals believed to be fraudsters and criminals created a bogus X account in his name.
“Thank you munun’unq @wicknellchivayo ne retirement package yawandirongera.Chokwadi chaicho ndechekuti Zimbabwe ndinoida nemoyo wangu wose,i love all Zimbabweans that’s why I protest against social injustices in my Chimurenga music.However, semunhu wenyama ndinotadzawo,” the fake X account is inscribed Thomas Mapfumo @Thomas Mapfumo_ tweeted.
Mapfumo stated that the phony account was established to harm his reputation and legacy.
“Not me. Fake account. Kune vanhu vakaipa kunze uko. I would never sell my integrity for a quick $. I never accepted anything from @wicknellchivayo. Just people trying to taint my reputation. Unfortunately some will easily buy into the narrative,” he said.
Mapfumo disclosed that he has initiated legal and criminal measures to hold accountable those participating in such ventures.
Mapfumo claimed in an exclusive interview with Nehanda Radio that he cannot be influenced by bribery.
