Zvimba Man Arrested for Killing Pregnant Ex-Wife
A 54-year-old man from Zvimba has been arrested for allegedly murdering his seven-month pregnant ex-wife after a heated argument.
Bernard Kufakunesu is accused of strangling 27-year-old Viola Chitsinde with an electric cable in an incident that has shocked the local community.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mashonaland West spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera, the tragic event occurred on October 29, 2024. Kufakunesu had arranged to meet Chitsinde at Masiyarwa Business Centre to discuss unresolved issues, including her request for money for a pregnancy scan.
The meeting, however, took a violent turn around 10 PM. “During their discussion, a misunderstanding escalated into a fight,” Inspector Kohwera stated.
In a moment of rage, Kufakunesu allegedly used an electric cable to strangle Chitsinde, resulting in her death, which was witnessed by their four-year-old child.
After the incident, Kufakunesu reportedly concealed his ex-wife’s body with a blanket and transported it in a wheelbarrow to Mahere Village, where he discarded it in a bushy area.
The body was later discovered by local villagers gathering firewood, prompting them to notify the authorities.
Police responded promptly to the scene, recovering the body and transporting it to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Following investigations, Kufakunesu was apprehended and charged with murder.
Inspector Kohwera emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. “We urge the community to value life and find amicable solutions to their differences.
Those in strained relationships should seek constructive communication rather than confrontations that can lead to violence,” he said.
The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the need for better support systems for individuals in troubled relationships.
