ZRP Suspects Inside Job in $70K Mukuru Robbery in Bulawayo

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a robbery at a Mukuru money transfer outlet in Bulawayo, which happened on Wednesday. Preliminary findings suggest it may have been an inside job.
Robbers made off with over $70,000 and 500,000 rand. They are still at large and reportedly disabled the store’s alarm system and stole the CCTV footage, making it harder for police to track them down.
ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated that the way the robbery was carried out indicates the robbers had prior access to confidential information.
He noted, “The suspects must have received tips from someone likely within the business, as they knew exactly what to do.”
The robbers specifically targeted an employee, indicating careful planning, reports ZBC.
Residents are worried, especially those who rely on the outlet for financial services. One resident expressed frustration, saying they traveled from Filabusi only to find the place closed due to the robbery.
Another stated, “We feel unsafe. The police need to increase patrols around banks for our protection.”
This incident marks the second major robbery in the city in recent years, following a $4 million theft at Ecobank Zimbabwe in 2024.
Police continue their investigation to locate the suspects.
