ZRP Launches Operation Against Vehicles Without Number Plates and Fitted with Illegal Lights

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a nationwide operation targeting vehicles on the roads that lack registration number plates or have unauthorized sirens, blue lights, and other illegal devices.

This operation applies to all types of vehicles, including personal cars, company vehicles, government vehicles, and public service vehicles.

In a statement posted on X, the police have expressed concern that some drivers are removing number plates to avoid identification after committing crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and hit-and-run accidents.

Additionally, these vehicles are often involved in traffic violations like running red lights and driving against the flow of traffic.

It has also been observed that some public service vehicles are removing their registration plates to escape accountability for traffic offenses and sometimes contribute to road accidents.

“It is also disturbing to note that some public service vehicles are removing registration plates to evade follow-ups on traffic offences and cause road accidents in some situations,” read the statement.

The installation of illegal sirens and lights, which are meant for emergency vehicles, is causing confusion and danger on the roads. These unauthorized lights can also impair visibility for other drivers at night.

The police have warned the public that any vehicle without proper registration plates will be impounded immediately and can only be retrieved after completing the proper registration process.
