ZRP Hunts Woman Filmed Assaulting Infant, Calls for Public Help

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a full-scale investigation following the recent circulation of a disturbing video showing a woman violently assaulting an infant.
The footage, widely shared on social media, captures the unidentified woman repeatedly striking the child in an undisclosed setting.
In a statement shared on its official Twitter account, ZRP confirmed that steps have been taken to identify and apprehend the suspect.
The police urged members of the public to assist by contacting the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197 with any relevant information.
This incident adds to a growing number of child abuse cases that have shocked the nation in recent months.
In November 2024, a video from Madziwa, Mashonaland Central Province, showed a man and woman ordering two minors to undress before flogging them with a log. One child was reportedly left unable to walk.
ZRP identified the suspects—believed to be neighbours of the victims and launched a separate criminal investigation.
In October 2024, a 30-year-old woman in Zimunya, Mutare, was arrested after a separate viral video captured her assaulting her 10-month-old baby with a stick while forcing the child to crawl across the floor.
Police say these cases reveal a deeply troubling pattern of violence against minors, often exposed only when videos go viral.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing offenders and emphasized the public’s role in protecting vulnerable children by promptly reporting abuse.
