Zimura Delivers US$500 Relief to Veteran Singer Madzibaba Zakaria

Sungura legend Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria has received a US$500 incapacitation allowance from the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) as he recovers from health complications.
Zimura representatives visited his Chitungwiza home this week, offering both the financial aid and groceries worth US$20.
Zakaria’s absence from a recent family show at Zebra Village raised concern among fans, leading him to confirm his current condition.
“I just managed to send my band and PA system and my son Franco to our family show,” Zakaria said, reflecting his inability to perform.
Zimura’s director of Information, Media and Publicity, Alexio “GC” Gwenzi, said the visit reflects their broader mission to support artists.
“Whenever we visit a member due for incapacitation allowance, we don’t go empty-handed. So, we buy some basic groceries valued at US$20,” he said.
A longstanding Zimura member since 1990, Zakaria qualifies for support under the association’s incapacitation policy.
Gwenzi explained that members who are medically assessed and deemed unable to work receive a once-off US$500 payment.
“This initiative underscores Zimura’s commitment to its members’ well-being,” he said.
Zakaria’s current situation has drawn attention to Zimura’s extensive welfare programs.
These include gratuities for senior members aged 75 and above with at least 20 years of continuous membership, funeral assistance, legal guidance, professional recommendation letters, copyright education, and free digital music distribution.
“Zimura continues to stand by its members throughout their careers, ensuring they receive the support they deserve,” Gwenzi added.
He praised Zakaria’s legacy and reaffirmed the association’s pledge to care for its veteran musicians.
