Zimfest UK 2025 Faces Backlash Over Revealing Outfits Worn by Female Attendees

Zimfest UK 2025 Faces Backlash Over Revealing Outfits Worn by Female Attendees – The annual Zimfest UK 2025, a flagship celebration of Zimbabwean culture held at Hertfordshire Showgrounds, has come under fire—not for its musical acts or organisation, but for the revealing outfits worn by some female attendees.

Photos of scantily dressed Zimbabwean women at the event have flooded social media, sparking widespread outrage.

Many of the outfits, described as too graphic, left little to the imagination and have been criticised as disrespectful to Zimbabwean values and culture.

Social media personality Jackie Ngarande was among those who condemned the fashion choices.

“Kushama chete sandiko kuchena. Dressing almost naked at a large public gathering isn’t bold—it’s inconsiderate,” she said.

She urged women to embrace confidence with class, reminding them that public events should reflect dignity and cultural pride.

The backlash has ignited a generational debate, with older Zimbabweans calling for a return to modest attire while some younger attendees defended their clothing as a form of modern expression.

However, many criticised the outfits as inappropriate for what is marketed as a family-friendly event.

“This was the worst year in terms of dressing. Teenagers were exposed to too much indecency,” said one concerned parent. Another attendee questioned whether some of the women represented professionals such as nurses or care workers, adding, “Aiwa marasa hunhu.”

In response to the outrage, there are growing calls for Zimfest organisers to introduce a formal dress code that promotes decency while respecting cultural expression.

Suggestions include defining family-friendly attire, enforcing dress standards at entry points, and launching awareness campaigns about respectful dressing.
