Zimbabwean School Hit by Claims of Mysterious Spiritual Husbands & Wives – Teachers, learners and parents at Siyaphambili Secondary School in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South, have raised concerns over reported unexplained sexual encounters that they believe have affected the school community since last year.

Some female teachers and learners claim they have experienced disturbing incidents they describe as spiritual in nature, with some saying the experiences have left them distressed and fearful.

One teacher, who requested anonymity, said she would sometimes wake up feeling as though she had been sexually disturbed during the night.

“There were mornings when I felt wet, exhausted and unsettled. Other teachers and learners also shared similar experiences, and many were frightened,” she said.

Some learners also alleged they experienced unusual incidents during school hours, with reports of several pupils collapsing after the act.

“One of my friends fainted after saying she felt something unusual touching her on her privates before she lost consciousness,” a learner claimed as reported by The Herald.

The reports prompted concern among parents, with one parent confirming she transferred her daughter to another school.

Community leaders and churches later organised prayers near the school in an effort to reassure learners and parents.

A source said some learners had stopped attending classes while others sought transfers because of the fears.

“The School Development Committee and village leaders invited churches to pray for the area in the hope of restoring confidence among learners and staff,” the source said.

Bulilima District Schools Inspector Gobile Gobile confirmed that prayer sessions took place outside the school grounds.

“I deployed a team from the health, education, social development and district development offices to assess the situation. The following day, the team reported that the environment was calm, although learning had been disrupted by the prayers,” he said.

He added that the school head had not organised the prayers and was away attending a family funeral at the time.

School head Ellen Gambo said she was unable to comment on the allegations.

“I am not in a position to comment because I am not currently on duty and do not know what has been taking place at the school,” she said.

Traditional leader Headman Ndolwane said similar reports had surfaced last year before subsiding.

“Prayers were previously held and the situation appeared to settle for several months before these latest reports,” he said.
