Zimbabwean Musician Mwenje Mathole Cancels Johannesburg Show Over Safety Concerns, Xenophobic Fears – Zimbabwean musician Mwenje Mathole has cancelled his scheduled performance in Johannesburg, citing safety concerns linked to reported xenophobic tensions in the city.
Mathole was set to headline a show at the Hard Rock Cafe Sandton on May 1 as part of his Better Must Come Tour. However, organisers opted to postpone the event following warnings regarding the prevailing security situation.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the artist confirmed that the decision was made to prioritise the safety of fans and collaborators.

“We regret to inform you that due to the current circumstances in Johannesburg, we are cancelling the show for now. We have been advised to postpone the event to a later date for the sake of our fans and friends,” reads the statement.
The show was expected to feature several artists, including Nox Guni, Debbie Nzombe, Masa Caroline and Naboth Mathole. The postponement has affected not only Mathole’s tour schedule but also other performers who were part of the event.
Organisers have assured fans that the concert will be rescheduled once conditions improve. Ticket holders are expected to receive full refunds in the interim.
