Zimbabwean Man’s Body Recovered from River Dee, Investigation Ongoing

UK – The body of Clifford Sibanda, a 47-year-old Zimbabwean man who was reported missing on Saturday, March 8, has been found in the River Dee, near the Chainbridge Hotel.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Originally from Nkayi in Matabeleland North, Sibanda had lived in the United Kingdom for 25 years, residing in Birkenhead near Liverpool.

His belongings, including a backpack, train ticket, and bank cards, were discovered on a rock by the river, leading to a search operation.

Meanwhile, investigators worked to piece together Sibanda’s final moments, discovering that he had travelled to Llangollen by bus from Chester Train Station and was near the river before the incident.

Furthermore, clothes believed to belong to him were found nearby, indicating he changed into swimming trunks before entering the water.

A post-mortem examination has been arranged to determine the cause of death, with drowning being considered.

Sibanda’s family is struggling to come to terms with his death. They described him as a capable swimmer and expressed confusion about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Specialist officers are providing support to the family during this difficult time.

As the investigation continues, a police spokesperson for North Wales noted that the local coroner has been informed, and the investigation is ongoing.
