Zimbabwean Cricket Rocked by Racism Allegations as Sikandar Raza Demands Justice

Zimbabwean Cricket Rocked by Racism Allegations as Sikandar Raza Demands Justice – Zimbabwe national T20 cricket captain Sikandar Raza has filed a formal complaint with the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA), accusing a local coach of directing racist slurs at him during a recent Vigne Cup match.

According to insiders at the match, the incident unfolded as Raza was walking off the field when Blessing Mafuwa, the head coach of Rainbow Cricket Club, allegedly launched a tirade of racially charged remarks at the veteran all-rounder.

Witnesses say players and spectators were left stunned by the confrontation, which has since sparked major outrage in local cricket circles.

Raza, one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated cricket figures, has called for decisive disciplinary measures against Mafuwa.

“This is not just about me. This is about the integrity of the game and the safety of every player regardless of race or background,” Raza is reported to have told close associates following the incident.

The HMCA has confirmed receiving Raza’s complaint and announced that a formal investigation is in progress, with both parties having already submitted written statements. The Rainbow Cricket Club has since suspended Mafuwa with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the probe.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has also expressed grave concern and is closely monitoring the proceedings.

In a brief statement, ZC reaffirmed its stance against any form of racism, saying the sport must remain a safe and inclusive space for all players.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is also said to be in contact with Zimbabwean officials, offering support and emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy on racism.

The final verdict from the HMCA disciplinary committee is expected within two weeks, and depending on the findings, this could set a powerful precedent in how issues of racial abuse are handled in local cricket going forward.
