Zimbabwe Recalls Azithromycin Batch Over Quality Concerns

Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has recalled a batch of Azithromycin 500mg tablets after discovering a quality problem that could affect how well the medicine works.

The recall targets Batch Number 24050191, produced by Indoco Remedies Limited. Tests showed the tablets did not meet required standards during a stability check, meaning they may not dissolve properly in the body.

MCAZ warned that this could reduce the drug’s effectiveness in treating bacterial infections and may contribute to antibiotic resistance.

The authority has instructed pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and wholesalers to immediately remove the affected batch from their shelves.

Anyone who bought the medicine from this batch should return it to the pharmacy where they purchased it.
