Zimbabwe Military Police Arrest Fake ZNA Officer

Zimbabwe Military Police Arrest Fake ZNA Officer – The Zimbabwe Military Police has arrested a Harare man accused of impersonating a member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and allegedly scamming people with fake recruitment promises.
The suspect, identified as Hardlife Nyoni (42) of Waterfalls, Harare, was arrested on 13 May 2026.
According to the ZNA, Nyoni allegedly posed as a senior military officer in WhatsApp groups under the name “General Talent Nyoni,” where he claimed to be facilitating recruitment into the army.

Authorities said Nyoni, who works as a general hand at Mkoba Teachers College, allegedly demanded US$100 from one applicant in exchange for assistance with the recruitment process.
The applicant reportedly became suspicious and alerted the Military Police, leading to a sting operation in Harare’s central business district.
“When he was arrested, he had academic certificates and handcuffs, which police believe he used to appear genuine,” the ZNA said.
During questioning, Nyoni allegedly admitted to using the same scheme on another victim and receiving US$200.
The Zimbabwe National Army has since warned members of the public against falling victim to recruitment scams.
“The army does not use third parties or charge money for recruitment applications,” the ZNA said.
The military also encouraged citizens to report suspicious individuals to the police or relevant army authorities.
