Zim Truck Driver Arrested with Counterfeit Cigarettes Worth R210,000 in South Africa

A Zimbabwean truck driver has been arrested in Rustenburg, South Africa after police discovered counterfeit cigarettes worth over R210,000.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) conducted a focused operation on Monday, September 29, based on tips about smuggled goods in the area.

Officers intercepted a twenty-wheeled truck in East End and found 42 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes hidden in the trailer, MDN reports.

The 32-year-old driver was taken into custody at the scene. Along with the counterfeit cigarettes, police also seized the truck and trailer, which are valued at more than R595,000.

The driver is now facing charges for possession of illegal cigarettes and remains in jail as investigations continue.
