ZIFA Begins Nominations for Executive Committee Elections

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced that it is now accepting nominations for its Executive Committee elections. These elections will conclude with an Elective Ordinary Congress on January 25, 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday, ZIFA confirmed that the elections will adhere to the 2024 ZIFA Statutes, Electoral Code, and the approved Elections Roadmap. Interested candidates can obtain nomination forms by downloading them from the ZIFA website or by visiting ZIFA’s offices in Harare.

ZIFA highlighted that there are no fees associated with any of the positions. They encouraged anyone interested in running to contact the Electoral Committee at elections@zifafootball.org.zw for more information.

As the election date approaches, several candidates are already reaching out to stakeholders to gather support.

Former Norton legislator and businessman Temba Mliswa has extended an invitation to ZIFA regional chairpersons, who are crucial voters in the upcoming election. He is offering them an all-expenses-paid trip to Polokwane, South Africa.

The trip will include attending Zimbabwe’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Kenya on November 15. Mliswa described this initiative as a way to foster unity within the football community.

Other notable individuals have shown interest in the ZIFA presidency. Among them are Walter Magaya, a prominent cleric and businessman, and Richard Mazodze, an experienced football administrator.

Additionally, Marshal Gore, a UK-based football consultant, and Philemon Machana, a current member of the ZIFA board, are also in the mix.

These elections are pivotal for Zimbabwean football, which has faced challenges related to governance, development, and international representation.

The new ZIFA leadership will be responsible for enacting reforms to restore trust and encourage growth in the sport.

The nomination and campaigning phases are expected to create a competitive atmosphere as stakeholders unite to influence the future of football in Zimbabwe.
