According to a statement of agreed facts presented by the Crown, Ndzimandze went to her boyfriend’s house at around 8pm after receiving information that he was with another woman.

Her parental home is reportedly located near the boyfriend’s residence.

The court heard that she kicked open the door and forced her way into the house, where she found the couple preparing dinner.

A pot of boiling water was on the stove, while the pair were seated on the bed.

In her own admission, Ndzimandze said she reacted out of anger.

She took the pot of boiling water and threw it onto Vilakati, scalding her on the back and other parts of the body.

She further assaulted her boyfriend with a stick that she had carried with her to the house.

After the couple fled into the darkness, the accused reportedly took the bed and blankets outside and soaked them in water, leading to the additional SODV charges.

The injured woman was rushed to Good Shepherd Catholic Hospital, where she was admitted for four weeks due to serious burn wounds.

A medical report confirming the extent of her injuries was presented in court.

Ndzimandze pleaded guilty to all three counts. In mitigation, she asked the court for leniency, stating that she had acted out of anger.

The court convicted her on her own plea and sentenced her to six years’ imprisonment or a fine of E6 000 for the assault charge.

She was further sentenced to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of E2 000 on each of the two additional counts.

The sentences amount to a total of 10 years in prison, with an option to pay a cumulative fine of E10 000.
