Wicknell Chivayo Responds to Criticism Over Donating Cars While Hospitals Lack Medication

Wicknell Chivayo Responds to Criticism Over Donating Cars While Hospitals Lack Medication – Controversial businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has hit back at critics questioning his decision to publicly donate cars to celebrities and church members while Zimbabwean hospitals reportedly face critical shortages of basic medication.
The response came after a user on X (formerly Twitter), going by the name Uncle Slimy D (@HChikaty), commented on one of Chivayo’s posts, asking:
“My question to you… If you’re giving those people cars out of love, why do you have to go online? Hospitals don’t even have painkillers, Mr. Sir. Are you aware?”
Chivayo, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and generosity towards public figures, did not hold back in his reply:
“I’m not the Minister of Health, and I don’t run that ministry. I buy cars for whoever I want, whenever I want. Some of them are church members I’ve known for a long time,” he wrote.
“Please understand, young man, I use my money how I see fit. If you’re concerned about hospitals, you can go ahead and buy painkillers yourself and donate them. I can’t do everything on my own.”
The exchange quickly gained traction online, with some users supporting Chivayo’s stance that personal donations should not be policed, while others argued that influential figures like him should prioritize national needs.

Chivayo has recently made headlines for gifting vehicles—mostly Toyota Aqua models—to musicians, pastors, and influencers, often sharing the moments on social media.
While his generosity has earned him admiration from many beneficiaries, it has also drawn scrutiny from sections of the public who believe his resources could be better allocated to pressing issues such as healthcare and education.
