Waterfalls Private School ‘Demands’ US$2 Valentine’s Day Levy

Waterfalls Private School ‘Demands’ US$2 Valentine’s Day Levy – A private school in Waterfalls, Harare, has come under scrutiny after reportedly requesting US$2 per child for a Valentine’s Day celebration scheduled for February 13.
According to a Term One 2026 calendar of events circulated by First Choice Private School, the Valentine’s Day activity is listed as a “school-wide celebration” with a cost of “$2 per child.” However, the notice does not provide further details regarding how the funds will be used or what the celebration will entail.

The school’s calendar outlines several upcoming activities, including an educational trip to Tsindi Ruins in Marondera on February 20 at a cost of US$40 for Grades One and Two learners, as well as a school fun run scheduled for March 6 costing US$1 per child.
The notice bears the name of the school principal, V. Hwamiridza, and includes the institution’s contact details at No. 4A Brendon Road, Waterfalls, Harare.
While Valentine’s Day activities are commonly observed in some schools as part of social or recreational programmes, concerns have been raised by some parents over the lack of clarity regarding the purpose of the US$2 levy.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the school administration were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
