Woman Trampled by Rogue Elephant at Lake Kariba
A fishing trip at Lake Kariba took a tragic turn when an elephant attacked and killed one of the three women on the expedition.
The incident occurred in the Charara area when Sinai Mpofu, along with Mercy Binga, 43, and Peggy Matesanwa, 42, were heading home from the lake.
As they walked, a rogue elephant suddenly emerged from the bush, causing the women to flee in different directions.
Unfortunately, the elephant pursued Mpofu, repeatedly goring her with its tusks before trampling her to death. Binga and Matesanwa, who were about 200 meters away, watched helplessly as the tragedy unfolded.
Provincial Police Spokesman Inspector Ian Kohwera described the incident as heartbreaking and urged residents living near wildlife areas to remain vigilant and develop a coexistence with wild animals.
National Parks and Wildlife Management spokesman Tinashe Farawo echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of heeding safety warnings and avoiding known wildlife paths.
“We managed to track and eliminate the elephant responsible,” said Farawo, while encouraging residents to stay alert and avoid bushy areas prone to wildlife activity. Woman Trampled by Rogue Elephant at Lake Kariba
