Woman Attacks Husband Over 60-Year-Old Postcard From Former Love Interest – Florida police have responded to an alleged assault involving a 71-year-old woman for killing her husband.
According to reports, the woman allegedly assaulted her husband of 52 years after discovering a postcard he received from a woman in Turkey, whom he had dated six decades ago.
Although we’re supposed to get wiser and more understanding as we age, it seems that jealousy never goes away.
This recent incident of an elderly woman assaulting her husband is a clear example.
Bertha Yalter, aged 71, from North Miami Beach, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery on a person aged 65 and over after allegedly attacking her husband in a fit of rage.
Based on the details in the arrest report, Yalter is accused of attempting to smother her elderly husband with a pillow after discovering that he had received a postcard from a woman in Turkey whom he had dated approximately six decades ago.
The assault took place in the couple’s condominium located in the Eastern Shores area of North Miami Beach, which resulted in bruises and open lacerations, as well as bleeding bite marks.
While some sources claim that Bertha’s husband admitted to responding to his former partner’s postcard, it does not excuse her violent outburst. Anger and jealousy are never a justification for domestic violence.
According to the woman’s lawyer, the elderly couple had a heated argument that led to regrettable consequences. However, he noted that charging her with attempted murder may not be necessary.
A state attorney clarified that attempting to smother someone with a pillow is considered attempted murder because it could lead to suffocation and death.
“I think she also admitted to urinating on him,” the attorney representing the state stated. “So, I think if you look at the totality of the circumstances, this appears to be more than a domestic battery by strangulation.”

Despite being a victim of his wife’s violent outburst fueled by jealousy, Bertha Yalter’s husband is reportedly attempting to have her released from jail and is currently in the process of recovering from his injuries.
Although the victim initially claimed that he was smothered with a pillow, he has since retracted his statement and states that he is okay. However, the police have stated that they possess a video recording of the incident that will be used as evidence to determine what truly took place.
The current status of Bertha’s incarceration remains uncertain. However, it has been ordered by the court that she must stay away from her “extremely fragile” husband, even after her release.
