Woman (64) Assaults Granddaughter with Electric Cable

...Over Maize Meal Conflict

A 64-year-old grandmother, Beauty Sibanda, is in legal trouble after allegedly assaulting her granddaughter over a misunderstanding regarding maize meal.

The incident has led to her appearance in the Plumtree magistrates’ court, where she was brought by her minor granddaughter.

During the court session, Magistrate Joshua Nembaware remanded Sibanda out of custody until January 31.

According to state prosecutor Selestine Madziwa, the incident occurred in December when Sibanda asked her granddaughter to prepare four meals with the maize meal while she traveled to Bulawayo.

Upon returning, Sibanda accused her granddaughter of wasting the maize meal, resulting in an alleged assault with an electric cable.

Following the initial attack, Sibanda reportedly threw an egg at her granddaughter’s face. As the confrontation escalated, the granddaughter attempted to flee, prompting Sibanda to chase her while throwing bricks. In fear for her safety, the granddaughter sought refuge at a nearby police station, where she filed a report.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the need for protective measures within families.
