Mzembi’s revelations have sparked an outcry from labor activists and human rights groups, who are calling for urgent action to be taken against the mine’s operators. They argue that such practices run counter to basic human rights and dignity, and that no employee should have to work in such conditions.

Posting on Twitter, Mzembi said:

“I invite the interest of the Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 Government, Minister of Public Service, Labour & Social Welfare if there is such a Ministry, there was during our time to descend on this Mine and order the Owners to respectfully and urgently correct this inhumane arrangement for workers to relieve themselves , especially when they are doing no 1.

I copy Chinese [embassy in Zimbabwe] to align their nationals and respect our social and cultural order in this Country . This is a serious allegation which needs urgent investigation and redress.”
