Wicknell Chivayo has fulfilled his promise to Scottland FC, the 2024 ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League champions, by delivering 20 Toyota Aquas.
He had pledged these cars along with US$1 million if Scottland secured the title against MWOS. Now, with the championship in hand, Chivayo has honored his commitment to the team.
Scottland received their championship trophy on Friday. The club’s owner, Pedzai Sakupwanya, presented the trophy to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
However, the decision that allowed Scottland to win the title is being contested. Karoi United has appealed, arguing that the ruling should be overturned.
The NRSL Disciplinary Committee awarded Scottland a 3-0 victory over Karoi United after officials stopped their match in the 88th minute with the score tied at 1-1.
If the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) changes this decision, it could name MWOS as champions instead.
In a social media post, Chivayo said he wanted to boost the morale of the Scottland team. He wrote, “I will gladly honor the USD 1 MILLION pledge I made to the club as a token of recognition for their hard work and dedication.” He praised Scottland FC for growing from humble beginnings in Mabvuku to becoming one of Zimbabwe’s top clubs.
Chivayo also announced an extra pledge of USD 600,000 to help Scottland in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
He hopes this contribution will support the team’s preparations for the upcoming season. Chivayo believes that with the right resources, Scottland FC can make history as the first PSL champions in their debut season and told fans to “WATCH THIS SPACE!”
