VIDEO: Air Zimbabwe Flies Solo Passenger on 50-Seater Plane from Harare to Johannesburg – Air Zimbabwe recently operated a flight from Harare to Johannesburg carrying just one passenger aboard a 50-seater aircraft.
The incident has drawn attention to the airline’s ongoing struggle to win back public trust and passenger numbers.

A video that has since gone viral on TikTok shows the lone female traveler being escorted from a shuttle to the aircraft by Air Zimbabwe staff.
The video was captioned, “I have decided to give Air Zimbabwe a chance and I was the only passenger on board.”
This unusual flight has reignited conversations about the national carrier’s viability, especially as the government pushes forward with plans to privatize loss-making parastatals.
Air Zimbabwe is currently over “US$300 million in debt” and relies heavily on state support to operate.
Amid these challenges, the airline recently issued a tender calling for expressions of interest from potential investors.
The move is part of a broader initiative by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to offload underperforming state-owned enterprises.
However, the tender explicitly states that “this is not a solicitation for the public to purchase the airline or to subscribe to any shares in Air Zimbabwe.”
Despite the setbacks, Air Zimbabwe remains optimistic.
The airline has announced plans to “acquire more aircraft and open up more routes domestically, regionally and some long haul as well.”
