Victoria Falls Reels After Crocodile Kills Veteran Canoe Guide
A veteran canoe guide has died after being attacked by a crocodile during a river safari near Kadahar Island, a popular stretch of the Zambezi River in Victoria Falls.
The victim, Marlven Nyoni, 43, of Mkosana suburb, was employed as an assistant guide by the Victoria Falls Canoe Company.
He was on duty, accompanying a group of tourists on a guided canoe trip, when the crocodile lunged from the water and dragged him under.
His body was later recovered by rescue teams.
The fatal attack occurred on Friday afternoon and has left the tourism community reeling.
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to determine how the attack unfolded and whether safety protocols were followed.
“We can confirm the report of a canoe guide attacked and killed by a crocodile. Our officers attended the incident whereby an assistant to a canoe guide was attacked and killed by a crocodile during a canoe trip along the Zambezi River at Kadahar Island,” said ZIMPARKS Public Relations Manager Mr Tinashe Farawo.
He added, “Circumstances on how exactly he got attacked are not yet clear. A detailed update with circumstances will follow once we get the full details.”
