Unlicensed Conductor Was Driving in Dzivaresekwa Crash – New Details Reveal

Unlicensed Conductor Was Driving in Dzivaresekwa Crash – New Details Reveal -Tragedy struck at the Dzivaresekwa turn-off along the Harare-Bulawayo Road when a Toyota Hiace kombi was hit from behind by a speeding UD truck, leaving seven people d€ad, including a pedestrian.

Investigations have revealed that the kombi driver at the time of the accident, Guylord Hunda (27), was not a licensed driver but a conductor.

According to H Metro, he was on his way to hand over the vehicle to its actual driver, who was waiting at the Warren Park turn-off for the routine shift change.

However, before the exchange could happen, disaster struck.

Hunda had already loaded 17 passengers when he reversed the kombi in an attempt to pick up more.

In that moment, the speeding truck, driven by 37-year-old Munyaradzi Mapuranga, crashed into the kombi, pushing it into a broken-down van.

The impact resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, with Hunda himself suffering serious head injuries.

When traffic police arrived at the scene to take statements, Hunda failed to produce a valid driver’s licence, confirming suspicions that he was not qualified to be behind the wheel.

Witnesses at the accident scene expressed outrage over the recklessness of allowing unlicensed conductors to drive public transport vehicles.

Leeroy Chandisaita, a fellow kombi driver, condemned the practice, saying, “This is a serious mistake made by kombi operators. Owners should not allow unqualified people to drive, as they are risking passengers’ lives.”

He further emphasized the danger of untrained conductors learning on the job, stating that many accidents along the Mbare-Dzivaresekwa route have involved reckless kombi drivers.

Authorities have since launched further investigations into the tr@gic accident.
