Uganda Army Chief Demands $1 Billion From Turkey, Requests “Beautiful Bride” in Controversial Post

Uganda’s army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has triggered backlash after making a series of unusual and controversial demands directed at Turkey.

In posts shared on X on Saturday, Kainerugaba called on Turkey to pay $1 billion as a “security dividend,” citing Uganda’s long-standing military role in Somalia, where its troops have been involved in fighting militants linked to Al-Shabaab under African Union missions.

Alongside the financial demand, Kainerugaba also made a personal and widely criticised remark, saying he wanted “the most beautiful woman” in Turkey to be given to him as a wife. He further warned of potential diplomatic consequences, including the closure of Turkey’s embassy in Kampala, if his demands were not met within 30 days.

The statement has drawn criticism online, with many describing it as inappropriate and sexist.

This is not the first time Kainerugaba has made such remarks. In 2022, he made headlines after offering 100 cows to Italy in exchange for marrying Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
