Nadia Nakai has often topped trends with her controversial nationality. Over the years, many have often regarded her as Zimbabwean, while some claim she is South African.
However, in the backdrop of this misconception, she has often seen herself trending for the wrong reasons.
A few months ago, she made headlines when she was nominated at the BET Awards in the Best International Flow category representing Zimbabwe.
However, her nomination set social media abuzz, with many trying to connect the dots about the nomination given that she has been part of the SA Hip Hop for years.
The bubbly rapper has it that in the backdrop of her nomination, she had to change from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
Speaking with Zingah on Choppin It With Bhudha T Podcast, Nadia Nakai said: “Me & Blxckie got nominated for BET and it said Zimbabwe, but then I got it corrected, they put South AH.”
The bubbly rapper has it that in the backdrop of her nomination, she had to change from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
She said: “They had to because, you know why, though? There’s no way I could go and represent Zimbabwe for BET when there are amazing female artists that are based in Zimbabwe, that know the culture, that rap in Shona, that live that life.”
She was born on 18 May 1990 to a Zimbabwean mother and a South African father.
