Teen Suffers Neck Stab During Emakhandeni Robbery Over Mobile Phone

A 17-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the neck and robbed near the Emakhandeni B booster while fetching water on the evening of 4 July.
The victim, identified as Mkhaliphi Ndlovu, was attacked at around 7p.m when two men approached and offered to help carry his bucket.
A few moments into the walk, one of the individuals allegedly drew a knife and stabbed him in the neck.
The suspects then snatched his Honor X5 mobile phone and fled, leaving the teenager bleeding at the scene.
One of the alleged assailants, 26-year-old Thabo Sibanda from Thorngrove, was arrested and has since appeared before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court facing charges of robbery and assault.
Prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe informed the court that Sibanda acted in concert with an accomplice who is still at large.
It is alleged that the pair pretended to assist the boy before launching a swift and violent attack.
Passers-by responded swiftly and rushed Ndlovu to Mpilo Hospital, where he remains under medical supervision with a serious neck injury.
The incident has sparked concern in the Emakhandeni community, with residents expressing alarm at the increasing number of criminal acts around public water sources during evening hours.
Appearing before Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga, Sibanda maintained his innocence, stating clearly, “I did not commit the offence. I was not present at the scene.”
The matter was postponed to 23 July to allow for the submission of a medical report which is expected to support the prosecution’s case.
