Suspects linked to a number of armed robberies dating back to 2019 shot & k!illed
Police Tuesday shot and killed two suspects they linked to 10 armed robbery cases dating back to 2019.
The suspects, Israel Zulu, 50, and David Dausi Takawira, 43, were fatally shot by detectives from CID Homicide Harare.
This follows their arrest in Mutare on Monday, according to a statement by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Nyathi said the two were gunned down at Manyame River, Southlea Park, Harare, while being escorted to recover firearms used in a spate of robberies.
“The suspects revealed to detectives from CID Homicide Harare, that they had hidden firearms in a bushy area near Manyame River, Southlea Park.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects tried to escape while taking advantage of the current weather situation, leading to a shootout.
“Subsequently, the suspects were shot by the detectives and were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where they died upon admission.
“Consequently, the detectives shot the suspects, who were immediately rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries upon admission,” said Nyathi.
The police spokesperson did not indicate if and why notorious robbers linked to one of the most serious crimes on earth were not handcuffed when they were being escorted by detectives.
Zulu and Takawira along with their accomplices, are connected to 10 armed robbery cases that were allegedly committed between 2019 and October 2022 in Harare and Bulawayo.
The offences include a a November 19, 2021 robbery incident at some business premises along College Road in Mount Pleasant, Harare.
A security guard was attacked with US$362,000.00 and ZWL$28,539.00 cash seized in the incident. ZimLive
