Sunday Gossip: Calvert-Lewin Targeted by Man Utd in Bold Free Transfer as Amorim Clears Out Frontline

Manchester United have opened talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin over a potential free transfer, as new manager Ruben Amorim accelerates plans to rebuild his attack.

The 28-year-old striker became a free agent after his contract with Everton expired this week, presenting United with a no-cost opportunity to bolster their forward line.

As the Red Devils operate under stricter financial conditions, Calvert-Lewin is viewed as a smart, cost-effective target who brings Premier League pedigree and physical presence.

Sources reveal United have already contacted the player’s representatives about a possible move from Merseyside to Old Trafford.

United have already splashed £62.5 million on Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and made a similar offer for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, but Amorim remains determined to deepen his attacking options.

According to The Sun, club officials believe Calvert-Lewin’s aerial ability and link-up play add a new dimension to the squad.

He is reportedly open to a supporting role, and talks could lead to a performance-based contract that includes appearance bonuses.

At the same time, Amorim is clearing space in his squad, with several high-profile names put up for sale.

Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony have all been told they can leave.

None of them are expected to attend Monday’s pre-season training at Carrington, while Tyrell Malacia is also sidelined from first-team preparations.

Calvert-Lewin, once one of England’s brightest prospects, hit double figures in consecutive Premier League seasons from 2019 to 2021 before injury setbacks disrupted his momentum.

Now reportedly fully fit, he is being considered as a reliable backup option who can contribute in a revamped United frontline.

Elsewhere, Juventus are weighing a swap deal that would send Douglas Luiz to Manchester in exchange for Jadon Sancho.

The winger, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea following a fallout with former United boss Erik ten Hag, remains one of the players actively seeking a move this summer.
