St Giles Children Gain New Mobility Through POTRAZ Gift

By Loyd Matare

Hope rolled in on wheels on Monday as POTRAZ presented fifteen children with brand-new wheelchairs, giving them freedom, mobility, and a brighter path to learning and play.

The donation, powered by Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) Charity Golf Tournament, underscored the regulator’s drive to restore mobility, independence and dignity to people living with disabilities.

POTRAZ deputy director Alfred Marisa said the authority had chosen St Giles this year after reflecting on how best to uplift vulnerable groups.

“Each year we look around in our community and we identify areas we can make some innovations.

“So, for this year we identified St Giles to assist them with wheelchairs. Last year we assisted Jairos Jiri with a mini bus.

“We do the little that we can hoping that in doing so we also encourage other corporates, entities to come in and assist,” Marisa said.

Marisa said the devices represented more than physical support.

“By handing over these 15 wheelchairs, we are not simply donating assistive devices. We are restoring mobility, we are restoring independence, and we are restoring dignity.

“They symbolise hope for a more inclusive society where every individual can move, can participate, and thrive without limitations.”

St Giles acting CEO and director general Dr Abel Mazire said the handover carried deep emotional weight for the institution.

“This is a very meaningful day to us… on behalf of St Giles, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generosity and fulfilling the pledge you made. You just did not promise… you also acted and that has made all the difference.”

He said the joy on the children’s faces spoke louder than words.

“Behind every smile… there are people like you, who care, and they care deeply. Some of them just use the body language. That says it all. They are truly, truly grateful.”
