South African Father Sentenced to Life for Murd£r of Infant Son – The High Court in Mpumalanga has sentenced 23-year-old Sibusiso Patrick Shongwe to life imprisonment for the murder of his three-week-old son.
The court heard that Shongwe had initially denied paternity and urged the child’s mother, Noluthando Mlambo, to terminate the pregnancy.
On March 1, 2023, Shongwe allegedly lured the mother and child under the pretext of providing supplies before fleeing with the infant.

The baby’s body was discovered two days later in nearby bushes.
A post-mortem confirmed the child died from sharp-force injuries to the neck.
During trial proceedings, State Advocate Senzo Zindela presented witness testimony and a confession.
The court found Shongwe showed no remorse.
In sentencing, the judge cited the prevalence of violent crime and ruled that no substantial and compelling circumstances justified deviating from the prescribed life sentence.
