South Africa: Two Die, Scores Injured After Lightning Strike at Cultural Festival – Two people have died and dozens more were injured after a powerful lightning strike hit a crowd during the Mphebatho Troop Festival in Mathibestad village, North West Province.

The deceased were identified as Kenosi Mashishi and Koketso Shikwambane. Health officials confirmed that nearly 150 people were injured, with 13 in critical condition.

Local authorities said the incident occurred as storm clouds gathered over the festival grounds. Emergency services rushed victims to Mathibestad Community Health Centre and Jubilee Hospital in Gauteng.

Municipal leaders extended condolences to the affected families and urged organisers of outdoor events to remain vigilant during summer thunderstorms.
