A 24-year-old man from Kazhanje Village, Nyanga, has been convicted of theft by the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court. Simbarashe Chinjikupi was found guilty of unlawfully taking clothing items belonging to his mother, Theresa Nyamuda, 60.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Chinjikupi took one blouse, one t-shirt, and two pairs of trousers on April 26, 2019, intending to use them temporarily.

However, he was later seen wearing the stolen clothes, and when confronted by his mother, he became violent, forcing her to flee to a neighbour’s homestead.

Chinjikupi was fined US$80, with the alternative of 15 days in prison for non-payment. Additionally, he was also ordered to pay his mother US$20 because some of her clothes were not returned. The case highlights the importance of respecting the property of others, even family members.
