Son slapped with 3 years for torching father’s home
CHINHOYI- In a disturbing display of family violence, a 21-year-old Chinhoyi resident from Shackleton Mine has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for intentionally setting fire to his father’s property.
Knowledge Jani was brought before the Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court facing charges of malicious damage to property.
The complainants in this matter are the accused’s father and stepmother.
It is the State’s case that on April 22, 2024, Jani went to the complainant’s place and accused them of causing his illness.
The court heard that, the accused’s anger escalated leading him to vandalize his father’s Nissan Sunny, drain its fuel and set both the vehicle and house on fire, resulting in damages valued at USD14,000.
The accused received a 4-year prison sentence with 1 year suspended for good behavior, leaving an effective sentence of 3 years.
