“I almost d*ied. We are dropping a video on our YouTube channel. Ndakuda kuurayiwa family.”
The statement attracted widespread attention, with many followers expressing concern over his safety.
However, in a detailed YouTube video released later, Nyathi explained that he believed the incident started as a robbery.
According to Nyathi, he had just left a shop when he was approached by five men.
“They started by asking for money in a polite way.”
He said the situation changed after he told them he had no cash.
“When I said I don’t have money, that is when they started attacking me. They beat me up.”
Nyathi said he was assaulted before falling to the ground.
“They pushed me to the ground… guys, I was really assaulted.”
He claimed the attackers left believing he had died.
“They had left me for dead assuming that I had died. But I had not died. I had fainted.”
Nyathi said he later regained consciousness and sought help from nearby residents before an ambulance transported him to Chitungwiza Hospital.
He also showed injuries to his mouth, saying one of his teeth was damaged during the attack.
“Mukanyatsotarisa zino rangu iri, rakaiswa bhutsu iri, rakaiswa bhutsu.”
He later explained:
“The guys really assaulted me.”
Nyathi said doctors carried out scans on his head, neck, ribs and spine, with medical attention focusing on trauma sustained during the incident.
He also spoke about uncertainty over whether he was targeted because of his online presence.
“Maybe they recognised me and thought they could obtain money from me… I don’t know.”
Nyathi said he intended to report the matter to police to assist with investigations.
“Maybe I will take them out to the police… we see what can be done for the guys to be found.”
