Six Injured as NRZ Train Smashes into Honda Fit at Chiremba Crossing

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has urged motorists to respect railway safety protocols after a devastating early morning crash in Harare left six people seriously injured.

Around 1:00 AM, the driver of a Honda Fit sped toward the Chiremba Road level crossing and tried to beat an oncoming train. The train hit the car head-on, hurling it off the tracks and seriously injuring all six occupants.

“…the driver of a Honda Fit tried to pass the level crossing at Chiremba Road in front of an approaching train, resulting in the collision,” NRZ said.

The crash has reignited concerns over reckless driving at level crossings, especially at night or in poorly lit areas where some motorists ignore basic safety rules.

The victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

NRZ stressed the importance of stopping at railway crossings and warned drivers against taking unnecessary risks.

“We continue to urge motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching level crossings and to stop if there is a train coming,” NRZ said.

Police are investigating the crash.
